Soitsfun Media Inc. and Soitsfun.com (hereinafter referred to collectively as “Soitsfun”, or "Services")

Welcome! We're thrilled that you've decided to use our website, all of which we refer here-in-after simply as "Soitsfun." Unfortunately we live in a world that is sometimes side-tracked and not always respectful to each other, so there are some basic expectations and terms which will remind and govern the use of Soitsfun! We deal only in positive social, activities and events within your community: so the bottom line is to have fun and respectfully build your lifestyle and community.  Soitsfun does not accept issues, fake news, or angst in articles written to positively reflect and support activities and events meant to inform others in the community.  Social opinions are encouraged
by users and are published in the User's Opinion section.

We've drafted these Terms of Service (which we simply call the "Terms") so that you'll know the rules that govern our relationship with you. Although we have tried our best to strip the legalese from the Terms, there are places where these Terms may still read like a traditional contract. There's a good reason for that: These Terms do indeed form a legally binding contract between you and Soitsfun Media Inc. So please read them carefully.

By using the Services, you agree to the Terms. Of course, if you don't agree with them, then don't use the Services.

ARBITRATION NOTICE: WE WANT TO LET YOU KNOW UP FRONT THAT THESE TERMS CONTAIN AN ARBITRATION CLAUSE A LITTLE LATER ON. EXCEPT FOR CERTAIN TYPES OF DISPUTES MENTIONED IN THAT ARBITRATION CLAUSE, YOU AND SOITSFUN AGREE THAT DISPUTES BETWEEN US WILL BE RESOLVED BY MANDATORY BINDING ARBITRATION, AND YOU AND SOITSFUN WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT OR CLASS-WIDE ARBITRATION.

1. Who Can Use the Services

No one under 16 years of age is allowed to create an account or use the Services. We may offer additional Services with additional terms that may require you to be even older to use them. So please read all terms carefully.

By using the Services, you state that:

  • You can form a binding contract with Soitsfun;
  • You are not a person who is barred from receiving the Services under the laws of the Canada/United States or any other applicable jurisdiction–meaning that you do not appear on The Canadian or U.S. Treasury Department's list of Specially Designated Nationals or face any other similar prohibition; and
  • You will comply with these Terms and all applicable local, state, national, and international laws, rules, and regulations.
  • If you are using the Services on behalf of a business or some other entity, you state that you are authorized to grant all licenses set forth in these Terms and to agree to these Terms on behalf of the business or entity. If you are using the Services on behalf of an entity of Canada or the U.S. Government, you agree to the Amendment to Soitsfun Terms of Service for Canadian/U.S. Government Users.

2. Rights We Grant You

Soitsfun grants you a personal, worldwide, royalty-free, non-assignable, nonexclusive, revocable, and non-sublicensable license to access and use the Services. This license is for the sole purpose of letting you use and enjoy the Free Service's benefits in a way that these Terms and our usage policies, such as our Community Guidelines, allow.

Any software (Api's) that we provide you may automatically download and install upgrades, updates, or other new features. You may be able to adjust these automatic downloads through your mobile device's settings.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of our Services, nor may you reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of that software, unless applicable laws prohibit these restrictions or you have our written permission to do so.

3. Rights You Grant Us

Many of our Services let you create, upload, post, send, receive, and store content. When you do that, you retain whatever ownership rights in that content you had to begin with. But you grant us a license to use that content. How broad that license is depends on which Services you use and the Settings you have selected within your profiles.

For all Services other than Live, Local, and any other crowd-sourced Service, you grant Soitsfun a worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to host, store, use, display, reproduce, modify, adapt, edit, publish, and distribute that content. This license is for the limited purpose of operating, developing, providing, promoting, and improving the Soitsfun! Platform Services and researching and developing new ones.

Because Live, Local, and any other crowd-sourced Services are inherently public and chronicle matters of public interest, the license you grant us for content submitted to those Services is broader. In addition to the rights you grant us in connection with other Services, you also grant us a perpetual license to create derivative works from, promote, exhibit, broadcast, syndicate, publicly perform, and publicly display content submitted to Live, Local, or any other crowd-sourced Services in any form and in any and all media or distribution methods (now known or later developed). To the extent it's necessary, you also grant Soitsfun and our business partners the unrestricted, worldwide, perpetual right and license to use your name, likeness, and voice solely in Live, Local, or other crowd-sourced content that you appear in, create, upload, post, or send. This means, among other things, that you will not be entitled to any compensation from Soitsfun or our business partners if your name, likeness, or voice is conveyed through Live, Local, or other crowd-sourced Services.

For more information about how to tailor who can watch your content, please take a look at our privacy policy and support.

While we're not required to do so, we may access, review, screen, and delete your content at any time and for any reason, including if we think your content violates these Terms. You alone though remain responsible for the content you create, upload, post, send, or store through the Service.

The Services may contain advertisements. In consideration for Soitsfun letting you access and use the Services, you agree that Soitsfun, its affiliates, and third-party partners may place advertising on the Services.

We always love to hear from our users. But if you volunteer feedback or suggestions, just know that we can use your ideas without compensating you.

4. The Content of Others

Much of the content on our Services is produced by users, publishers, and other third parties. Whether that content is posted publicly or sent privately, the content is the sole responsibility of the person or organization that submitted it. Although Soitsfun reserves the right to review all content that appears on the Services and to remove any content that violates these Terms, we do not necessarily review all of it. So we cannot—and do not—take responsibility for any content that others provide through the Services.

Through these Terms and our Community Guidelines, we make clear that we do not want the Services put to bad uses. But because we do not monitor or review all content, we cannot guarantee that content on the Services will always conform to our Terms or Guidelines. We rely on users to be responsible in their communications and to notify us when content is questionable, or not community oriented.

5. Privacy

Your privacy matters to us. You can learn how we handle your information when you use our Services by reading our privacy policy.

6. Respecting Other People's Rights

Soitsfun respects the rights of others. And so should you. You therefore may not upload, post, send, or store content that:

  • Violates or infringes someone else's rights of publicity, privacy, copyright, trademark, or other intellectual-property right;
  • Bullies, harasses, or intimidates;
  • Defames, spams or solicit's Soitsfun's users.

You must also respect Soitsfun's rights. These Terms do not grant you any right to:

  • Use branding, logos, designs, photographs, videos, or any other materials used in our Services;
  • Copy, archive, download, upload, distribute, syndicate, broadcast, perform, display, make available, or otherwise use any portion of the Services or the content on the Services except as set forth in these Terms;
  • Use the Services or any content on the Services for any commercial purposes without our consent.

In short: You may not use the Services or the content on the Services in ways that are not authorized by these Terms. Nor may you help or enable anyone else in doing so.

7. Respecting Copyright

Soitsfun honours the requirements set forth in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. We therefore take reasonable steps to expeditiously remove from our Services any infringing material that we become aware of. And if Soitsfun becomes aware that one of its users has repeatedly infringed copyrights, we will take reasonable steps within our power to terminate the user's account.

We make it easy for you to report suspected copyright infringement. If you believe that anything on the Services infringes a copyright that you own or control, please file a notice with our designated agent:

Soitsfun Media Inc.
Attn: Copyright Agent
email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If you file a notice with our Copyright Agent, it must comply both with the requirements set forth at Copyright Act, RSC 1985, c C-42 and 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3). That means the notice must:

  • contain the physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner;
  • identify the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed;
  • identify the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed, or access to which is to be disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to let us locate the material;
  • provide your contact information, including your address, telephone number, and an email address;
provide a personal statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
  • provide a statement that the information in the notification is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.

8. Safety

We try hard to keep our Services a safe place for all users. But we can't guarantee it. That's where you come in. By using the Services, you agree that:

  • You will not use the Services for any purpose that is illegal or prohibited in these Terms.
  • You will not use any robot, spider, crawler, scraper, or other automated means or interface to access the Services or extract other user's information.
  • You will not use or develop any third-party applications that interact with the Services or other users' content or information without our written consent.
  • You will not use the Services in a way that could interfere with, disrupt, negatively affect, or inhibit other users from fully enjoying the Services, or that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair the functioning of the Services.
  • You will not use or attempt to use another user's account, username, or password without their permission.
  • You will not solicit login credentials from another user.
  • You will not post content that contains pornography, graphic violence, threats, hate speech, or incitements to violence.
  • You will not upload viruses or other malicious code or otherwise compromise the security of the Services.
  • You will not attempt to circumvent any content-filtering techniques we employ, or attempt to access areas or features of the Services that you are not authorized to access.
  • You will not probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our Services or any system or network.
  • You will not encourage or promote any activity that violates these Terms.
  • We also care about your safety while using our Services. So do not use our Services in a way that would distract you from obeying traffic or safety laws.

9. Your Account

You are responsible for any activity that occurs in your account. So it's important that you keep your account secure. One way to do that is to select a strong password that you don't use for any other account.

By using the Services, you agree that, in addition to exercising common sense:

  • You will not create more than one account for yourself.
  • You will not create another account if we have already disabled your account, unless you have our written permission to do so.
  • You will not buy, sell, rent, or lease access to your Soitsfun account, Events, Groups, a Soitsfun username, or a friend link without our written permission.
  • You will not share your password.
  • You will not log in or attempt to access the Services through unauthorized third-party applications or clients (VPN's).
  • If you think that someone has gained access to your account, please immediately reach out to Soitsfun Security.

10. Purchases and Payments

We may offer various virtual goods and services through Advertiser's Links (all of which we call "Virtual Products") that you can purchase and use through the Services. Soitsfun does not handle payments or payment processing for any purchases; those are handled by third-party payment providers or service providers (such as, PayPal, Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store, among others). Some third-party service providers may charge you sales tax, depending on where you live. Please check the third-party service provider's relevant terms for details.

BY ACCEPTING THESE TERMS, YOU AGREE THAT SOITSFUN! IS NOT REQUIRED TO PROVIDE A REFUND FOR ANY REASON FOR PURCHASES ON THIRD PARTY SITES.

It's your sole responsibility to manage your purchases. If you are under 18 (or younger than the age of legal majority in your place of residence), you must obtain your parent's or guardian's consent before making any purchases.

Soitsfun does not transmit any funds and is not a money-services business. To the extent such functionality is made available in the Services, it is provided by an unaffiliated third party, and like any other third-party service, subject to that third party's separate terms of use.

11. Data Charges and Mobile Phones

You are responsible for any mobile charges that you may incur for using our Services, including text-messaging and data charges. If you're unsure what those charges may be, you should ask your service provider before using the Services.
If you change or deactivate the mobile phone number that you used to create a Soitsfun account, you must update your account information through personal privacy settings within 72 hours to prevent us from sending to someone else messages intended for you.

12. Third-Party Services

If you use a service, feature, or functionality that is operated by a third party and made available through our Services (including Services we jointly offer with the third party), each party's terms will govern the respective party's relationship with you. Soitsfun is not responsible or liable for those third party's terms or actions taken under the third party's terms.

13. Modifying the Services and Termination

We're relentlessly improving our Services and creating new ones all the time. That means we may add or remove features, products, or functionalities, and we may also suspend or stop the Services altogether. We may take any of these actions at any time, and when we do, we may not provide you with any notice beforehand.

While we hope you remain a life long Soitsfun'er, you can terminate these Terms at any time and for any reason by deleting your account in accordance with the Soitsfun Privacy Policy.

Soitsfun may also terminate these Terms with you at any time, for any reason, and without advanced notice. That means that we may stop providing you with any Services, or impose new or additional limits on your ability to use the Services. For example, we may deactivate your account due to prolonged inactivity, and we may reclaim your username at any time for any reason.

Regardless of who terminates these Terms, both you and Soitsfun continue to be bound by Sections 3, 6, 10, 13-22 of the Terms.

14. Indemnity

You agree, to the extent permitted under applicable law, to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Soitsfun, our directors, officers, employees, and affiliates from and against any and all complaints, charges, claims, damages, losses, costs, liabilities, and expenses (including attorneys' fees) due to, arising out of, or relating in any way to: (a) your access to or use of the Services; (b) your content; and (c) your breach of these Terms.

15. Disclaimers

We try to keep the Services up and running and free of annoyances. But we make no promises that we will succeed.

THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" AND TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. IN ADDITION, WHILE SOITSFUN ATTEMPTS TO PROVIDE A GOOD USER EXPERIENCE, WE DO NOT REPRESENT OR WARRANT THAT: (A) THE SERVICES WILL ALWAYS BE SECURE, ERROR-FREE, OR TIMELY; (B) THE SERVICES WILL ALWAYS FUNCTION WITHOUT DELAYS, DISRUPTIONS, OR IMPERFECTIONS; OR (C) THAT ANY SOITSFUN CONTENT, USER CONTENT, OR INFORMATION YOU OBTAIN ON OR THROUGH THE SERVICES WILL BE TIMELY OR ACCURATE.

SOITSFUN TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY AND ASSUMES NO LIABILITY FOR ANY CONTENT THAT YOU, ANOTHER USER, OR A THIRD PARTY CREATES, UPLOADS, POSTS, SENDS, RECEIVES, OR STORES ON OR THROUGH OUR SERVICES. WHILE WE DO NOT TOLERATE OFFENSIVE, ILLEGAL, MISLEADING, OR OTHERWISE INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT. YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT YOU MAY BE EXPOSED TO UNAUTHORIZED CONTENT, NONE OF WHICH SOITSFUN WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR.

16. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SOITSFUN AND OUR MANAGING MEMBERS, SHAREHOLDERS, EMPLOYEES, AFFILIATES, LICENSORS, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR MULTIPLE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM: (A) YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE THE SERVICES; (B) THE CONDUCT OR CONTENT OF OTHER USERS OR THIRD PARTIES ON OR THROUGH THE SERVICES; OR (C) UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR CONTENT, EVEN IF SOITSFUN HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT WILL SOITSFUN'S AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICES EXCEED THE GREATER OF $100 USD OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID SOITSFUN, IF ANY, IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS.

SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES, SO SOME OR ALL OF THE EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS IN THIS SECTION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

17. Arbitration, Class Waiver, and Jury Waiver

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS CAREFULLY BECAUSE THEY REQUIRE YOU TO ARBITRATE DISPUTES WITH SOITSFUN, AND LIMIT THE MANNER IN WHICH YOU CAN SEEK RELIEF FROM US.

Applicability of Arbitration Agreement. All claims and disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the use of the Services that cannot be resolved in small claims court will be resolved by binding arbitration on an individual basis, except that you and Soitsfun are not required to arbitrate any dispute in which either party seeks equitable relief for the alleged unlawful use of copyrights, trademarks, trade names, logos, trade secrets, or patents.

Arbitration Rules. The Federal Arbitration Act governs the interpretation and enforcement of this dispute-resolution provision. Arbitration will be initiated through the American Arbitration Association ("AAA"). If the AAA is not available to arbitrate, the parties will select an alternative arbitral forum. The rules of the arbitral forum will govern all aspects of this arbitration, except to the extent those rules conflict with these Terms. The AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules governing the arbitration are available online at www.adr.org. The arbitration will be conducted by a single neutral arbitrator. Any claims or disputes where the total amount sought is less than $10,000 USD may be resolved through binding non-appearance-based arbitration, at the option of the party seeking relief. For claims or disputes where the total amount sought is $10,000 USD or more, the right to a hearing will be determined by the arbitral forum's rules. Any judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Additional Rules for Non-appearance Arbitration. If non-appearance arbitration is elected, the arbitration will be conducted by telephone, online, written submissions, or any combination of the three; the specific manner will be chosen by the party initiating the arbitration. The arbitration will not involve any personal appearance by the parties or witnesses unless the parties mutually agree otherwise.

Authority of the Arbitrator. The arbitrator will decide the jurisdiction of the arbitrator and the rights and liabilities, if any, of you and Soitsfun. The dispute will not be consolidated with any other matters or joined with any other cases or parties. The arbitrator will have the authority to grant motions dispositive of all or part of any claim or dispute. The arbitrator will have the authority to award monetary damages and to grant any non-monetary remedy or relief available to an individual under applicable law, the arbitral forum's rules, and the Terms. The arbitrator will issue a written award and statement of decision describing the essential findings and conclusions on which the award is based, including the calculation of any damages awarded. The arbitrator has the same authority to award relief on an individual basis that a judge in a court of law would have. The award of the arbitrator is final and binding upon you and Soitsfun.

Waiver of Jury Trial. YOU AND SOITSFUN WAIVE ANY CONSTITUTIONAL AND STATUTORY RIGHTS TO GO TO COURT AND HAVE A TRIAL IN FRONT OF A JUDGE OR A JURY. You and Soitsfun are instead electing to have claims and disputes resolved by arbitration. Arbitration procedures are typically more limited, more efficient, and less costly than rules applicable in court and are subject to a very limited review by a court. In any litigation between you and Soitsfun over whether to vacate or enforce an arbitration award, YOU AND SOITSFUN WAIVE ALL RIGHTS TO A JURY TRIAL, and elect instead to have the dispute be resolved by a judge.

Waiver of Class or Consolidated Actions. ALL CLAIMS AND DISPUTES WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THIS ARBITRATION AGREEMENT MUST BE ARBITRATED OR LITIGATED ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND NOT ON A CLASS BASIS. CLAIMS OF MORE THAN ONE CUSTOMER OR USER CANNOT BE ARBITRATED OR LITIGATED JOINTLY OR CONSOLIDATED WITH THOSE OF ANY OTHER CUSTOMER OR USER. If, however, this waiver of class or consolidated actions is deemed invalid or unenforceable, neither you nor we are entitled to arbitration; instead all claims and disputes will be resolved in a court as set forth in Section 18.

Confidentiality. No part of the procedures will be open to the public or the media. All evidence discovered or submitted at the hearing is confidential and may not be disclosed, except by written agreement of the parties, pursuant to court order, or unless required by law. Notwithstanding the foregoing, no party will be prevented from submitting to a court of law any information needed to enforce this arbitration agreement, to enforce an arbitration award, or to seek injunctive or equitable relief.

Right to Waive. Any rights and limitations set forth in this arbitration agreement may be waived by the party against whom the claim is asserted. Such waiver will not waive or affect any other portion of this arbitration agreement.

Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement. If you do so, neither you nor Soitsfun can force the other to arbitrate. To opt out, you must notify Soitsfun in writing no later than 30 days after first becoming subject to this arbitration agreement. Your notice must include your name and address, your Soitsfun username and the email address you used to set up your Soitsfun account (if you have one), and an unequivocal statement that you want to opt-out of this arbitration agreement. You must send your opt-out notice to this address: Soitsfun Media Inc., ATTN: Arbitration Opt-out.
Small Claims Court. Notwithstanding the foregoing, either you or Soitsfun may bring an individual action in small claims court.
Arbitration Agreement Survival. This arbitration agreement will survive the termination of your relationship with Soitsfun.

18. Exclusive Venue

To the extent the parties are permitted under these Terms to initiate litigation in a court, both you and Soitsfun agree that all claims and disputes arising out of or relating to the Terms or the use of the Services will be litigated exclusively in the Provincial Court, Vancouver, B.C. Canada. If, however, that court would lack original jurisdiction over the litigation, then all claims and disputes arising out of or relating to the Terms or the use of the Services will be litigated exclusively in the Provincial Courts at Vancouver, B.C. Canada. You and Soitsfun consent to the personal jurisdiction.

19. Choice of Law

Except to the extent they are preempted by Canadian federal law, the Province of British Columbia, other than its conflict-of-laws principles, govern these Terms and any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or their subject matter, including tort claims.

20. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, then that provision will be severed from these Terms and not affect the validity or enforcement of any remaining provisions.

21. Additional Terms for Specific Services

Given the breadth of our Services, we sometimes need to craft additional terms and conditions for specific Services. Those additional terms and conditions, which will be available with the relevant Services, then become part of your agreement with us if you use those Services.

22. Final Terms

  • These Terms make up the entire agreement between you and Soitsfun, and supersede any prior agreements.
  • These Terms do no create or confer any third-party beneficiary rights.
  • If we do not enforce a provision in these Terms, it will not be considered a waiver.
  • We reserve all rights not expressly granted to you.
  • You may not transfer any of your rights or obligations under these Terms without our consent.
  • These Terms were written in English and to the extent the translated version of these Terms conflict with the English version, the English version will control.

How To Contribute Articles And Tips On Getting Published

Want to share your community knowledge with Soitsfun! readers? Here’s how to submit articles for consideration and details on what we look for.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Articles submitted for consideration should be of interest to readers - Soitsfun, have a tone that is appropriate for Soitsfun, and be written by a person, PR department or rewriter . They may not be violent, sexual, religious or politically topical. "No fun" you say?  Well it just goes to show how much work we have to do in order to build and support happier lifestyles in our community.  We want Evergreen content that is lives on in support of the individuals and community you live in.

We like articles that introduce new ideas and advance conversations around social, dance and recreational topics and trends that engage people in building community groups – think op-ed rather than content marketing. We appreciate lively, polished writing that balances research or news with fun and memorable anecdotes or personal examples that help illustrate your point of view.

While we encourage drawing from your own experiences to support your ideas, over-the-top self-promotion (of yourself or your company) will prevent us from publishing your article. This is not about you, it is about what you have seen through participation and are able to verify. The same goes for dense jargon and abstract, blanket assertions. Keep it simple - after all, we are all amateurs at living and writing Soitsfun!

Please no pitches, abstracts, outlines, press releases, or interview offers.

Soitsfun prefers submissions from members and contributors who are leaders in and knowledgeable about the subjects and topics we regularly cover within our categories: community, social, dance, recreation, sports, lifestyles, health, creativity, travel, work and play culture, work-life issues and policies, entrepreneurship, and innovation are popular with our readers, especially if there’s a salient takeaway for businesses or other communities.  The community scope is huge and there is a story for the observant every time you walk out the door.

To get an idea of the types of stories Soitsfun wants to publish, please read “How To Write Soitsfun Pieces That Get Published And Don’t Make Readers or Editors Want To Die”.

HOW TO WRITE FOR SOITSFUN

  • The subject must be about the people, business, events and activities that bring community together through social dance, recreation or marketing group endeavors.
  • Format every blog post - Careful formatting will make your blog posts easier for people to scan.
  • Use Headers and Sub-headers - Headers and sub-headers will break up long blog posts, help people scan read your blog and convince them to read the post.
  • Use lists - Numbered lists or bullet pointed lists help people scan blog posts fast and find the information they're looking for quickly.
  • Use punctuation - Use full stops, commas, dashes and colons to break up each paragraph into smaller pieces of information that make sense quickly.
  • Linkbacks - You may use one link back to a business and one to a key individual or group involved. Remember this is about the event or activity that surrounds and involves people.
  • Short paragraphs - Because reading is harder online it's best to break text into manageable chunks. Paragraphs should be much shorter online than on paper with two to six sentences per paragraph a good guideline for blog posts.
  • Be bold - Don't overuse bold text or it loses its effectiveness.
  • Drop the italics - Italics are hard to read in print.
  • Capital letters - Use capitals for proper nouns and at the beginning of sentences but avoid writing all in capitals because it's harder to read.
  • White space - Readers need somewhere to rest the eye and a good blog layout leaves plenty of blank space.
  • Background color - Most blogs and websites get the contrast between text color and background color right, but make sure your blog background doesn't make the text hard to read.
  • Use images - They tell a vivid story - Good use of images will draw readers into your blog posts.
  • Be consistent - You don't know how readers found your blog. You can't be sure if they arrived straight at your latest post, on your about page or via an archived post. Soitsfun! is a free service for communication of social, dance and recreational opportunity for people of all ages in their community. It is for both self-expression, rebuilding social and freedom of speech in promoting enjoyable community activities. We believe that Soitsfun! increases the availability of information, encourages healthy debate and makes possible new connections between people and community.

We respect our users' ownership of and responsibility for the content they choose to share. It is our belief that censoring this content is contrary to a service that bases itself on freedom of expression.

In order to uphold these values, we need to curb abuses that threaten our ability to provide this service and the freedom of expression it encourages. As a result, there are some boundaries on the type of content that can be hosted with Soitsfun!. The boundaries we have defined are those that both comply with active, healthy activities for people to enjoy social requirements and that serve to enhance the community as a whole.

Content Boundaries

Our content policies play an important role in maintaining a positive experience for you, the user. Please respect these guidelines. From time to time, we may change our content policies so please check here. Also, please note that when applying the policies below, we may make exceptions based on artistic, educational, documentary or scientific considerations or where there are other substantial benefits to the public from not taking action on the content.

We allow Soitsfun content focused on social dance, recreation and the entities that facilitate community lifestyles. It is all about healthy respectful enjoyment of our activities, events and spaces.  Soitsfun! is exactly that - "Fun" and nothing more or less.

There are some exceptions to our content policy on personal pages:
  • We have a zero tolerance policy towards content that exploits. Some examples of this include:
  • Hate Speech:  But, don't cross the line by publishing hate speech. By this, we mean content that promotes hate or violence towards individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status or sexual orientation/gender identity.
  • Crude Content: Don't post content just to be shocking or graphic. There is enough of this in the world without individuals considering themselves new authorities on the subject.
  • Violence: Don't threaten or intimidate other people on your blog. For example, don't post threats against another person or group of people and don't post content encouraging your readers to boycott or take violent action against another person or group of people. If you can not recommend then don't write about it.
  • Copyright: It is our policy to respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement.  Also, please don't provide links to sites where your readers can obtain unauthorised downloads of other people's content.
  • Impersonating others: Please don't mislead or confuse readers by pretending to be someone else or pretending to represent an organization when you don't.
  • Illegal activities: Don't use Soitsfun! to engage in illegal activities or to promote dangerous and illegal activities.

Spam: Spam takes several forms in Soitsfun!, all of which can result in deletion of your account or blog. Some examples include creating blogs designed to drive traffic to your web site or to move it up in search listings, posting comments on other people's blogs just to promote your site or product and scraping existing content from other sources for the primary purpose of generating revenue or other personal gains.

If you encounter a blog that you believe violates our content policies, please report it to us using the 'Report' link located at the top of each blog (Note: If the blog owner has hidden this link, you can still report the blog by filling out this form).

Our team reviews these flags for policy violations. If the blog does not violate our policies, we will not take any action against the blog or blog owner. If we find that a blog does violate our content policies, we take one or more of the following actions based on the severity of the violation:

  3. Disable the author's access to his/her Soitsfun! account

To write for Soitsfun, you need to understand that "Soitsfun" is exactly about that! It is about the social tools and activities that draw people together as a community. Soitsfun is about the need for friends, relationships and events that provide basic networks for individual and community success. It is all about "Fun".  If it is not "Fun", then it does not serve to inform you or others of the activity or event.  So who decides?  You do, of course.  Simple eh?

So if it is negative, destructive or slanderous, please take it to any other other site or Social Network that publish Mayhem, Murder and Disaster.  There are many of them out there in the news today.

Readers want web content that:

  • Is "Fun" or tells them where it is at in their community.
  • It is easy to skim & scan
  • Is written in a style that is direct, concise and factual
  • Is focused around their needs as a group, the community and events (not yours)
  • Has credibility and inspires trust.

10 Web writing tips to help you contribute

1. Understand how readers read on the web

Readers read differently on the web – unlike when they are reading a book from cover to cover. On the web, readers don’t read word for word. They skim content, trying to get a quick impression of what it’s about. They scan for the bits they are interested in and ignore the rest. You need to understand how readers read on the web, so write content in a style that makes it easy for them - Soitsfun.

2. Write content that is easy to skim & scan

  • Be direct
  • Start with your conclusion or where your article intends to go – this is called the Inverted Pyramid style
  • Limit each paragraph to one key concept
  • Use simple meaningful headings
  • Use bullet points and numbered lists sparingly
  • Use informed Quotes and acknowledge it.
  • Include your summary or overview
  • Learn more about how to write in an informative style "Soitsfun" - that keeps your readers reading

3. Keep your wording short & simple (Word count 450 - 800 words)

Be brief and concise. Reduce your word-count to a minimum. Write clearly and simply. If you are writing for an expert audience explain your terms. Give your readers links to simple background information, so that the most casual visitor can work out what you are talking about.

4. Know your audience

Who are you are writing for? What are their needs? Why and what will they come to your article to find or achieve? What is their level of expertise? Build a profile of your community and various audience groups. Focus your content around reader's needs and tasks, not around yourself or your organization (user-centric content writing). People are tired of us talking about ourselves.

5. Engage your user

Imagine who your reader will be, and keep that imagined person in mind as you write for him or her. Talk directly to your them. Provide interaction.

6. Build trust

  • Be factual and accurate. Where appropriate, prove the verity of your information with links to trusted websites or by quoting trusted authorities. Remember to be accurate and truthful in any quotes as it is your credibility on the line.
  • Include only content which conforms to the purpose of the category.
  • Protect privacy and respect copyright.
  • Keep your article content up to date.
  • Publish your author details. Provide readers with a sense of knowing who is is behind the article.
  • Spell-check your content. Invite people to report errors, then fix them. We all re-write.
  • Network and build trust and community credibility.

7. Test then refine your content

First test it yourself – review each article while imagining how it reads to a reader. Then test it on friends to learn what works and what causes difficulties. Test your content on different audience groups with different levels of knowledge. Test, refine, test, refine, test and have fun … (You get the idea).

8. Help people (and search engines) find your content

Use hyper-links to articles on Soitsfun or to other helpful sites. Do keyword research to determine what keywords people are likely to use to find your content. Sprinkle your content with those keyword phrases, paying particular attention to your article title, headings and your leading paragraph. Provide alternate text descriptions for your images (Google loves knowing what images mean). Learn to be professional in your writing endeavor.

9. Create the right tone, look and feel

When you create a topic, aim for a unified tone, look and feel throughout your article. Aim for the right tone to suit your reader category and your subject matter. Keep the tone of your article unrelentingly positive, up-beat and with community information. Use multi-media cautiously – it should enhance the page, not distract the user. Develop an appropriate identifying brand if you do not already have one, and include it on every page and communication. Color, images and the ‘tone’ of your conversation with the reader will help to create a psychological impact on your reader's, and help to communicate a subtle message about who you are. They will appreciate you and your information without you shoving yourself at them. Reader's are smart and intuitive.

10. Be generous with your expert knowledge of your community and subject matter.

Readers value expert knowledge. It is a drawing-card for readers for your future articles and they will forward your article in order to inform friends. It helps to build credibility because it establishes you as an authority on your subject. Don’t give your expert knowledge all at once. Organize it into digestible pieces.  Remember that we are all beginners and only wish to enhance our lifestyles, and that of others, through an informed community. Let's dance again!

Soitsfun.com runs pretty much like other projects. The content collected and shared with you on this site is the result of the time, energy, and contributions from users in large and small communities in North America.

8 Tips For Writing Your First Blog

Preferred Topics and Subjects

Posts should be relevant to the Social, dance, recreation and lifestyles. This may include but is not limited to, the following categories and their sub-categories:

  • Social Community
  • Dance Community
  • Recreation
  • Social-Tech
  • Sport (local community only)
  • Lifestyles
  • Fun Times
  • Travel
  • Opinion

The post should provide a specific angle to a topic that affects people, for example:

  • Industry announcement (e.g. an update on changes to personal or business tools that affects personal lives or community).
  • Unique take on a current social community issue.
  • Provision of expertise (e.g. in any category).
  • Review of new events and activities in your community.
  • How to guides or steps to achieve in any of our categories.
  • Facts, policies and/or guidelines in categories.
  • Opinion in any category but couched in respectful tone.

Link Requirements and Policies

  • Links should be used as appropriate to the content of the post.
  • Links are encouraged to other posts found in the Soitsfun! website where appropriate.
  • No links are permitted to unrelated sites or affiliate links.

Optimizing for the Engines

  • Once you've decided what information you want to provide, you can turn your focus to SEO. Copy-writing for the engines requires balance.
  • You never want to sacrifice the reader's experience for the sake of rankings.
  • Stuffing keywords into text is a method that will almost always backfire.
  • Practically no one wants to read an article (or website page) that constantly repeats the same exact terms to the point of extremes.
  • Use specific key-phrases within your own article and also use similar terms. Pay more attention to key-phrase use (and the use of variations of those key-phrases) than focusing on keyword density.

The Two Most Important Keys

  1. First, pay attention to the content you offer. Always impart useful, concrete knowledge to your reader.
  2. Second, study your niche (a.k.a. know your target audience!) and write specifically for the purpose of helping them.
  • SEO Advice: Write useful articles in a category that informs and that readers will enjoy.
User first, search engines second. When you get the priority straight, the rest will fall into line without much hassle.

Blogger Bio

Bloggers must include a short biography of no more than 75 words, plus a photo in their profile. Bloggers may link to their own work in their bio. This bio will appear at the end of the post and should be provided along with the post.
There will be a paragraph at the beginning of the post introducing the Guest Blogger that will also include a link to the Guest Blogger’s site.

Your Post/Submission Image Requirements

  • A minimum of one image, or video link should be submitted with the post to make the post locally authoritative and attention-grabbing.
  • All images should be properly attributed and have been credited.  You may also submit through This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Soitsfun! reserves the right to edit the post as needed (for example to fix spelling, grammar and/or create clarity). Please don’t be offended if we suggest changes or ask you to rework part of an article to meet with our requirements.  If the submission is so bad - then we "Trump" it.

Soitsfun! reserves the right to reject posts or submissions if not appropriate.
